This partnership will leverage Abu Dhabi's intelligent life sciences ecosystem to connect world-class research expertise with the infrastructure and talent needed to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications.
The collaboration's objectives align with the UAE National Cancer Strategy and MIT's research excellence, focusing on addressing climate health and population-specific oncology challenges. Specific measures include developing and implementing large-scale multi-institutional clinical trials and translational research, participating in MIT's Bio-Convergence Cancer Consortium, and establishing shared research databases and biobanks to facilitate population-specific cancer research.
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, noted that this collaboration aims to build a comprehensive, sustainable ecosystem that promotes knowledge sharing, scientific discovery, and applied innovation to advance cancer research, talent development, and bio-convergence innovation, creating new opportunities to build, test, and scale solutions that benefit patients in Abu Dhabi and globally.
Dr. Matthew Vander Heiden, Director of the MIT – Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, stated that addressing complex health challenges requires collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and geographies, and welcomed the new partners from Abu Dhabi to the consortium.
