en.Wedoany.com Reported - In June 2026, the freight volume on the Russian Railways (RZD) network reached 90.2 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1%. After a previous period of stagnation, RZD freight volumes have grown for the third consecutive month, with increases of 1.9% in April, 0.5% in May, and 1% in June.

Freight growth in June was primarily driven by bituminous coal (up 11.1% compared to June 2025), grain (up 36.5%), and non-ferrous metal ores (up 10.8%). Fertilizer transportation volumes recovered during the month, posting a 0.2% increase. Export freight transportation in the eastern direction grew by 10.5% year-on-year, reaching 14.5 million tons, with fertilizer transportation up 14% and grain transportation surging by 14.3 times.
From January to June 2026, the total freight volume on the RZD network was 548.9 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1%. During this period, grain transportation set a new record, increasing by 56.1% year-on-year to 15.8 million tons; fertilizer transportation amounted to 34.9 million tons, down 1.9% year-on-year.
In comparison, for the full year of 2025, grain transportation on the RZD network fell by 12.2% to 27.4 million tons, fertilizer transportation grew by 3.8% to 70.3 million tons, and total freight volume decreased by 5.6% to 1.116 billion tons, marking the fourth consecutive year of decline.
