en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dimension News, the Western Sydney Airport Metro project has reached a key milestone, with the first airport metro train, having traveled over 23,000 kilometers by sea from Vienna, arriving at Port Kembla on July 6. It was subsequently transported to the new vehicle storage and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills for assembly. This airport metro train is specifically designed to serve air travelers, featuring wider accessible aisles, luggage storage space under seats, real-time flight information displays, and facilities such as wheelchair spaces, hearing loops, and bicycle storage areas.

The Western Sydney Airport Metro project spans approximately 23 kilometers with six stations, planned to connect St Marys Station with Western Sydney International Airport and surrounding areas. Once operational, the journey from St Marys Station to the airport terminal is expected to take about 15 minutes. According to the plan, dynamic testing of this airport metro line will commence later this year, with subsequent focus on the delivery of the remaining 11 trains, system integration, station interface testing, and operational readiness. Originally scheduled to open in 2026 alongside the airport, the line's expected completion has been adjusted to 2027 due to civil engineering delays.
