en.Wedoany.com Reported - Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced a $3.6 billion investment to expand its manufacturing campus in San Antonio, adding a second vehicle assembly line to support Tacoma pickup production. The expansion will create 2,000 new jobs and add 250,000 square feet to Toyota's Texas plant, doubling its size by 2030.

TMNA plans to transfer Tacoma production from Toyota's Baja California plant in Mexico (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California, TMMBC) to the expanded Toyota Texas plant within approximately four years.
Ted Ogawa, President and CEO of TMNA, stated that Toyota's continued investment in North America reflects confidence in the local workforce, innovation, and long-term growth potential. By expanding the San Antonio plant, Toyota deepens its commitment to U.S. manufacturing, creating meaningful and sustainable jobs while advancing its mission to deliver high-quality vehicles that meet customer needs.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that Texas is where the world builds bigger things, and Toyota has proven that once again. With a $3.6 billion investment in San Antonio, doubling the plant's size and creating 2,000 new jobs, supported by the Texas Enterprise Fund and the JETI program, this expansion will bring economic opportunities to San Antonio for generations.
This latest investment will add another assembly line to the Toyota Texas campus, which already has one vehicle assembly line and a new rear axle plant set to begin production soon.
Frank Voss, Vice President of TMNA's Truck Manufacturing Group and President of Toyota Texas, said the 2,000-acre South Texas ranch where the plant is located was deliberately chosen for its capacity to expand with vehicle demand. This expansion marks the first step in realizing that potential, and Toyota is excited to add the beloved Tacoma to its existing award-winning lineup.
This expansion brings Toyota's total investment in San Antonio to $8.3 billion since breaking ground in 2003. The new facility will enhance plant flexibility through advanced manufacturing technologies and align with Toyota's broader operations in North America.
Toyota's local workforce will grow to approximately 6,000 employees, supported by 23 on-site suppliers and their staff.
For nearly 20 years, Toyota's Texas plant has produced top-quality trucks and SUVs, assembling over 197,000 vehicles last year alone. The San Antonio plant is the exclusive production site for the Tundra and Sequoia, both assembled on the same line, and will begin production at its new rear axle plant this fall.
