en.Wedoany.com Reported - DE‑CIX, the world's leading internet exchange operator, is expanding its presence in the Nordic region by launching a new internet and cloud exchange in Stockholm, Sweden. Designed from the outset to support AI, this new hub aims to enhance the company's Nordic infrastructure while strengthening interconnection capabilities among enterprises, network operators, and cloud service providers in the region.
DE‑CIX began operations in the Nordics in 2023, establishing internet exchanges in Esbjerg and Copenhagen (Denmark), Kristiansand and Oslo (Norway), and Helsinki (Finland). This expansion into the Swedish capital marks its further growth in the region. DE‑CIX Stockholm is scheduled to officially launch in September 2026, with orders being accepted starting today.
The new Stockholm exchange is AI-ready, designed to support data-intensive workloads, cloud-based AI applications, and emerging real-time use cases. Leveraging its AI-IX capabilities, the exchange enables high-performance, low-latency interconnection between networks, clouds, and data-driven platforms, while meeting the growing demand for resilience, scalability, and digital sovereignty. By gaining local access to internet peering and cloud interconnection, customers can improve application performance, optimize hybrid and multi-cloud architectures, and achieve secure, direct connectivity to international networks and platforms.
The new exchange will be integrated into DE‑CIX's existing Nordic and global interconnection ecosystem, providing optimized connectivity to key digital hubs in Europe and worldwide. Operated by DE‑CIX International GmbH, the exchange will be deployed across multiple data center locations in the Stockholm metropolitan area.
Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE‑CIX, stated that Stockholm, with over 30 data centers, is a major hub in the Nordics, handling 55% of the region's internet traffic. It is also the largest colocation market in the area, supported by more than 125 active network providers. He emphasized that by building an AI-ready internet and cloud exchange in this location, DE‑CIX brings interconnection services closer to customers in Sweden and the broader Nordic region, seamlessly integrating with the global ecosystem to enable enterprises, networks, and cloud providers to build and scale AI-driven applications with greater confidence.
This expansion builds on DE‑CIX's ongoing investment in the Nordics, where the company has steadily upgraded network capacity and interconnection services to support cloud adoption, data-intensive workloads, and AI-driven innovation. As a key digital hub connecting continental Europe, the UK, and global data flows, the Stockholm deployment complements DE‑CIX's existing Nordic locations and strengthens the company's role in the region. DE‑CIX operates a carrier- and data center-neutral interconnection ecosystem spanning five continents, with over 60 locations worldwide, connecting more than 4,000 networks.
