en.Wedoany.com Reported - Breeze Airways plans to delay the retirement of its Embraer E190 fleet until early September 2026, extending its service life beyond previous expectations. According to AeroRoutes, the airline's latest schedule submission shows plans to operate nine domestic routes with the 108-seat regional jet between July and early September 2026.

Although the E190 is gradually being phased out of Breeze Airways' scheduled route network, the latest flight schedule indicates that the airline still sees operational value in deploying these aircraft in specific leisure and regional markets during the peak summer travel season. According to the schedule, most E190 flights are planned between July 11 and August 31, while two routes to Orlando will only operate during the Labor Day travel period (September 4 to September 7). Specific routes include: Islip-Charleston (twice weekly, through August 31), New Orleans-Charleston (twice weekly, through August 31), New Orleans-Myrtle Beach (twice weekly, starting July 30 through August 31), New Orleans-Richmond (twice weekly, through August 31), New Orleans-Savannah (twice weekly, through August 31), Westchester County-Myrtle Beach (twice weekly, starting July 30 through August 31), Westchester County-Savannah (twice weekly, through August 31), Orlando-New Orleans (twice weekly, September 4 to September 7), and Orlando-Wilmington (twice weekly, September 4 to September 7). As with all published schedules, aircraft assignments may be adjusted before departure.

Breeze Airways launched operations in 2021 with leased E190 and E195 aircraft, gradually introducing larger, more modern Airbus A220-300s. The airline has repeatedly stated that the A220 will serve as the backbone of its scheduled flights, offering greater range, better fuel efficiency, and lower operating costs on longer routes. Nevertheless, the E190 provides operational flexibility: its smaller capacity is ideal for emerging markets where passenger demand has not yet reached the threshold for A220 operations. Using E190s on these low-frequency routes allows Breeze Airways to maintain existing services while taking delivery of new Airbus aircraft. The latest schedule indicates that the fleet transition is a gradual process rather than an abrupt change.

While E190 service continues, the latest route announcements suggest that the aircraft's role as a scheduled passenger plane is in its final stages. Recent route expansions have overwhelmingly been allocated to the A220-300. For passengers booked on these nine routes, this means they may still have the opportunity to fly on Breeze Airways' earlier Embraer aircraft. According to fleet data from ch-aviation, Breeze Airways currently operates 68 commercial aircraft, with only eight remaining E190s, averaging 18.9 years in age. In comparison, its 60 Airbus A220-300s have an average age of just 2.6 years, with an additional 38 on order.

In terms of cabin experience, all 108 seats on the E190 are configured as economy class, with 48 seats (rows 1 through 12) designated as "XL" seats offering extra legroom but the same seat width as standard seats. In contrast, the A220-300 features 12 wider "Ascent" reclining seats in front of 125 economy seats, with fewer seats per row, providing a superior travel experience.

This decision to extend operations indicates that while Breeze Airways views the A220 as the flagship for long-term network expansion, it still considers the E190 a practical tool for meeting seasonal demand and market testing. Although the retirement of the Embraer fleet is approaching, its scheduled service in the summer of 2026 is not yet over, and the eventual transition to an all-A220 fleet will take time.
