en.Wedoany.com Reported - Liebherr has secured an order for seven ship-to-shore (STS) cranes from the Sparrows Point Container Terminal (SPCT) in Baltimore, USA. The equipment will be ordered by Tradepoint Atlantic / TiL Terminal LLC for operation at the terminal. This project marks a significant advancement for Liebherr's business in the United States and further strengthens its market position on the East Coast.

The Sparrows Point Container Terminal is a joint development by Tradepoint Atlantic and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL) at the Port of Baltimore. Located on the former Bethlehem Steel plant site, the 168-acre project is expected to increase the port's container handling capacity by approximately 70% upon completion, while boosting local economic activity and employment. The terminal is designed to accommodate two vessels simultaneously and is positioned as a key gateway for global trade.

These cranes will serve as the terminal's core equipment, featuring a 70-meter outreach, a 25-meter backreach, and a 51-meter lift height above rail, specifically designed for next-generation container ships. Their configuration can serve the widest operational vessels currently in service and adapt to future increases in vessel size. The cranes utilize proven control systems and a robust digital architecture to support reliable and safe terminal operations.

"This project will not only add capacity and efficiency for the local community but also for the broader Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions," said Ammar Kanaan, CEO of Terminal Investment Limited (TiL). Declan O'Sullivan, Sales Managing Director of Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd., stated that the project reflects the scale and ambition of the investment behind Sparrows Point, reinforcing Liebherr's ability to deliver high-performance crane solutions for major global terminal development projects. Tom Caso, Vice President of Tradepoint Atlantic, noted that Liebherr's experience in high-performance, reliable crane solutions for large terminals instills confidence in the partners.

This order brings the total number of Liebherr STS cranes ordered in the U.S. market since 2020 to 27. Shane Kuhlmey, Director of the MCC Division at Liebherr USA, stated that the project highlights the continued confidence of the U.S. market in Liebherr's expertise and technology. The Sparrows Point development is one of the largest privately financed container terminal projects in the United States, with an investment of approximately $1.2 billion. The facility is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the Port of Baltimore and its status as a major hub for international trade.
