en.Wedoany.com Reported - AMETEK Process Instruments has expanded its 993X series gas analyzers (including models 993X and 9933) by introducing an explosion-proof (Ex d) enclosure certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 hazardous areas. The new design addresses common challenges in remote and utility-limited locations, enabling reliable installation of the analyzer in applications where purge gas is unavailable or its supply is impractical.

The explosion-proof 993X enclosure features IP66 and NEMA 4X protection ratings, allowing outdoor installation and operation in environments with minimal temperature control requirements. By eliminating the need for a continuous supply of inert purge gas, the design helps reduce installation complexity, operating costs, and overall system infrastructure requirements.
"Many customers rely on purge-protected analyzers, but these systems are not practical in all Zone 1 locations," said Michael Gaura, Senior Product Manager at AMETEK Process Instruments. "The explosion-proof 993X offers users a robust alternative that maintains measurement performance."
The 993X series primarily uses ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy to continuously measure sulfur compounds and other key components in natural gas and biomethane streams, including hydrogen sulfide, carbonyl sulfide, and methyl mercaptan. The analyzer is also widely used in sulfur recovery and desulfurization processes to measure sulfur-containing substances such as sulfur dioxide and carbon disulfide, supporting process control, emissions compliance, and product quality management. When necessary, other technologies can be integrated to measure hydrogen and carbon dioxide concentrations in the aforementioned end-user applications.
With the addition of explosion-proof certification, the 993X series provides operators with greater flexibility in designing analyzer shelters and hazardous area installations for oil and gas production, processing, and renewable gas applications.
