en.Wedoany.com Reported - Claro Colombia announced an investment of over $3.2 million in telecommunications infrastructure upgrades in the department of Nariño, with $756,000 specifically allocated for 5G network deployment and fiber optic network expansion in the capital city of Pasto.

These funds will also be used to improve and stabilize the fixed 5G network, while maintaining 4G mobile network coverage across all municipalities in Nariño, and providing fiber optic services in Pasto and Ipiales. Pasto thus joins Claro's nationwide 5G expansion plan, which now covers 78 cities and municipalities across Colombia, with 6.6 million active customers on the Colombian 5G network.
The company stated that 5G technology, with its greater capacity, lower latency, and higher speed, can support various digital applications and processes, enhancing productivity in industries such as commerce, industry, agriculture, tourism, and services.
Diego Martínez, Regional Director of Claro Colombia, noted that introducing 5G and strengthening the fiber optic network in Pasto is a key step in the city's technological evolution. The company is building infrastructure to support higher traffic levels, new innovation opportunities, and productivity gains, while focusing on improving the customer experience.
According to data from América Móvil's subsidiary, 5G technology now accounts for 20% of its total mobile network traffic, with an average monthly growth of 12% over the past year.
Using this service requires users to be in a 5G coverage area and have a compatible device.
