Ericsson partners with UNIE University to cultivate talent needed for AI in telecommunications

Unlike traditional university-industry collaboration models, Ericsson's R&D team directly participated in shaping the academic structure, course content, and key focus areas of the master's program, aligning it with the technologies currently driving the transformation of telecommunications networks. Juan Olivera, President of Ericsson Spain, stated that artificial intelligence is not just a technological trend but a force defining the future of the industry. Segundo Píriz, Rector of UNIE University, believes this collaboration will provide students with a differentiated experience and a clear competitive advantage.

The master's program is oriented towards the labor market, aiming to equip students with applicable skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, or deep learning from the very start of their studies, thereby enhancing their employability in a market with continuously growing demand for experts. Ericsson explained that the convergence of artificial intelligence, mobile networks, and cloud services will mark the next evolution of the industry, making it crucial to accelerate the training of new talent.

This initiative also reflects Spain's importance in Ericsson's global R&D strategy, thanks to two international R&D centers located in Madrid and Malaga, where nearly a thousand engineers are dedicated to developing technologies related to artificial intelligence, network automation, cognitive software, and future 5G and 6G architectures.

UNIE University's new program combines academic education with a practical and business-oriented approach, primarily targeting engineers and university graduates interested in specializing in applied artificial intelligence. The curriculum covers machine learning, deep learning, and advanced AI technologies.

Prior to this agreement, Ericsson had already collaborated with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universidad Carlos III on postgraduate programs focused on large-scale software development and 5G network virtualization technologies. This partnership with UNIE marks a further expansion of this model into the specific field of artificial intelligence.
