en.Wedoany.com Reported - AMPORTS, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA), and Port Freeport have announced a partnership to expand vehicle throughput and integrated logistics capabilities along the Texas Gulf Coast, solidifying the port's position as a leading gateway for vehicle import, export, and distribution.

At the core of this collaboration is MMNA's ongoing expansion of its U.S. distribution network, aimed at ensuring faster and more efficient delivery of new Mitsubishi vehicles to dealer partners in the Gulf Coast and Midwest regions, while focusing on long-term cost efficiency. A long-time customer of AMPORTS since 1983, MMNA previously operated at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, and the Port of Jacksonville, Florida. Now, MMNA is leveraging Port Freeport's strategic location and coordinated services to establish a more efficient and responsive path for vehicles from ship to market.
Port Freeport's proximity to one of the largest U.S. automotive markets provides Mitsubishi Motors with a logistics advantage, supporting a more streamlined and flexible supply chain while reducing inland transportation distances and improving delivery lead times.
Under the partnership, Mitsubishi Motors vehicles are received at the port by AMPORTS' stevedoring team, then directly transferred to on-site vehicle processing operations for accessory installation and final preparation before distribution. This integrated process reduces operational complexity and enhances coordination across the supply chain.
Ken Konieczka, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations at MMNA, stated that incorporating Port Freeport into the U.S. distribution system will be key to improving efficiency, reducing waste, and accelerating deliveries to Gulf Coast and Midwest dealers. This initiative supports the company's current vehicle transportation methods and lays the groundwork for future network planning. Vee Kachroo, CEO of AMPORTS, noted that the company's role is to support customers through integrated solutions that align with evolving supply chain demands, and the collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors North America and Port Freeport demonstrates how cooperation can improve vehicle flow and strengthen the overall supply chain. Rob Giesecke, Chairman of the Port Freeport Commission, stated that the port's selection as Mitsubishi Motors' preferred Gulf Coast port enhances supply chain connectivity, supports economic growth, and further positions Port Freeport as a leading gateway for vehicle imports and exports.
MMNA commenced operations at Port Freeport on April 28, 2026, with over 500 vehicles arriving in April alone. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on July 1, attended by representatives from all three parties, marking the official launch of the partnership and the continued growth of the port's automotive business. The event coincided with the arrival of the Höegh Sunrise, a new Aurora-class vessel from Höegh Autoliners, carrying Mitsubishi vehicles to Freeport. This ship is the fifth in its series, reflecting investments in more sustainable maritime transportation and supply chain solutions.
