en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lisbon plans to build a new river terminal in Parque das Nações next year as a complement to existing stations. Joana Baptista, Lisbon City Council's commissioner for public space projects and works, revealed at the closing press conference of the 11th Rock in Rio Lisboa that the Parque das Nações station, which existed during the 1998 World Expo, will be rebuilt to allow boats heading to Cais do Sodré and Terreiro do Paço to dock by 2027. The music festival concluded this Sunday at Parque Tejo.
In January, Rui Ribeiro Rei, president of TTSS – Transtejo Soflusa, stated that the company responsible for connecting Lisbon to the south bank of the Tagus River is studying the launch of a route to Parque das Nações. Additionally, according to the Lisbon councilor, a dedicated dock for the Rock in Rio festival will be built at Parque Tejo in 2028, which "may be temporary. But if successful, why not make it permanent?" she asked.
Parque Tejo is an open-air venue adjacent to the Tagus River, near the Vasco da Gama Bridge, which hosted World Youth Day (JMJ) in 2023. After nine editions at Parque da Bela Vista in Chelas, Rock in Rio Lisboa moved here in 2024.
Regarding transport planning, Joana Baptista mentioned the "long-promised" tram line 16 E, which will run from Cais do Sodré to the eastern end of the city, expected to be completed by 2029/30. She stated that Carris is advancing the project, emphasizing that "all of this takes time." In May last year, the chairman of Carris' board estimated that the 16 E project would be completed by 2028. In June of the same year, Pedro Bogas explained that it would be a 12-kilometer, fully dedicated line with approximately 18 stops, offering excellent commercial speed and an estimated travel time of 22 minutes, compared to the current 42 minutes.
The 16 E tram is part of the development of a project called the "Sustainable Intermodal Line" (Linha Intermodal Sustentável, LIOS), which has no confirmed completion date. With this connection, the entire riverside arc from Parque Tejo to Algés (in the municipality of Oeiras) will be fully linked.
