en.Wedoany.com Reported - Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport revealed on the 8th that its first overseas air cargo station has been inaugurated and put into operation at Liège Airport in Belgium.
On the 7th, a delegation led by the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Airport Group visited Liège Airport in Belgium. They engaged in in-depth discussions with Liège Airport and Belgian freight airline service company FML on topics such as hub collaborative development and the joint construction of overseas air cargo stations. A framework agreement on aviation logistics cooperation between the airports of Chongqing and Liège was also signed.
Liège Airport is strategically located in the core hinterland of the European economic "Golden Triangle" formed by Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, offering unique geographical advantages. Leveraging a comprehensive ground collection and distribution system, the airport boasts strong reach: a 4-hour drive covers 60 million European consumers, and major European economies such as Germany, France, and the UK can be reached within 24 hours. Furthermore, its cargo flight network fully covers markets in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East. It serves not only as a key hub for intercontinental air logistics transshipment and distribution but also as an excellent platform for Chinese airports to expand their logistics networks in Europe.
The Chongqing-Liège overseas air cargo station is located in the core cargo area of Liège Airport, covering an area of 12,000 square meters, with an annual cargo handling capacity of up to 120,000 tons. Equipped with specialized cargo handling facilities, the station can handle all types of air cargo operations. It possesses mature capabilities for overseas local cargo consolidation, warehousing and sorting, and customs clearance and distribution, efficiently meeting the cross-border cargo transportation needs between China and Europe.
The launch of this overseas cargo station effectively addresses the shortcomings of Chongqing's aviation logistics services at the European end, further improving the global layout of Chongqing's international aviation logistics and supporting the construction of the China-Europe Air Silk Road. Leveraging Liège Airport's advantages as a European hub, the station will provide one-stop localized services such as transit consolidation, warehousing and sorting, and ground handling for China-Europe cross-border cargo. Simultaneously, utilizing Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport's capabilities as a national-level aviation logistics hub, it will offer supporting services for European cargo arriving in China, including inbound sorting, cargo consolidation and transshipment, and regional distribution. This will establish a new two-way logistics pattern between China and Europe: "Originating from Chongqing, distributed in Europe; consolidated in Europe, radiating from Chongqing."
A solid foundation of route operations has provided strong support for the establishment of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport's overseas cargo station. In January this year, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport officially launched the regular all-cargo route Chongqing-Liège, opening a direct air freight channel between Chongqing and Europe. As of mid-June, the cumulative cargo and mail throughput on this route reached 12,000 tons, with a balanced ratio of import and export cargo flow and stable operational performance, highlighting market vitality and long-term development potential.
Next, taking this signing and inauguration as an opportunity, Chongqing Airport Group will focus on key directions such as Europe and Southeast Asia. It will continue to increase the frequency of international cargo routes, accelerate the expansion of overseas cargo station layouts, continuously enhance the international reach and industrial driving force of Chongqing's aviation logistics, ensure the stability of cross-border industrial and supply chains, and support the construction of Chongqing as an inland open highland.
