en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco has announced the acquisition of Winel, a Dutch company specializing in the manufacture of marine and offshore equipment. Through this acquisition, Oceanco integrates Winel's engineering capabilities into its own operations. The Oceanco Group also includes companies such as Alewijnse, Aluship, Lateral, and Mercury.
Winel, through its subsidiaries Staalart and Yachtsupport, produces and supplies customized and standardized products for the maritime sector. Its offerings include tank vent check valves, manually operated doors and hatches, watertight sliding doors, hull doors, and yacht equipment.
Founded in 1956 and headquartered in Assen, the Netherlands, Winel also operates its main production facilities there. The company serves both commercial shipping and offshore sectors. Oceanco stated that Winel will continue to be led by its existing management team, following the same strategic direction, and will support both current and new clients.
Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout said: "We are building the yachts of the future together with Gabe Newell. With Winel joining the Oceanco Group, we can continue to drive innovation in the manufacturing of one of the most complex components of a yacht."
Winel CEO Ake van der Vinne added: "Our doors and hatches are renowned for their reliability under demanding conditions, and so is our partnership with Oceanco. Together with other partners within the group, we will develop groundbreaking solutions for the maritime industry."
The two companies have been collaborating since the late 1990s, with Winel's products featured in numerous Oceanco projects. Their first collaboration involved lifting equipment for the Oceanco yacht Al Mirqab. More recently, Winel provided an adjustable hinge system for the hull doors of the Leviathan, allowing the doors to remain flush with the deck under varying sea conditions.
