en.Wedoany.com Reported - Neo Performance Materials Inc. (TSX:NEO), a Canadian critical materials company, is evaluating the feasibility of establishing a rare earth permanent magnet production facility in India. If realized, this would become another key global production base for the company, following its $75 million magnet factory in Narva, Estonia. Currently, over 90% of the global supply of rare earth permanent magnet materials comes from China, and major markets such as Europe, the United States, and India are actively seeking supply chain diversification.

Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, Neo Performance Materials is a global manufacturer specializing in advanced industrial materials, including rare earth magnetic powders, permanent magnets, and specialty chemicals. Its Magnequench business unit produces neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) bonded magnetic powders, bonded permanent magnets, and sintered permanent magnets, widely used in automotive, industrial, and electronic applications. Neo has established a vertically integrated supply chain in Europe, from rare earth separation to magnet manufacturing. Its magnet factory in Estonia, which began commercial production in 2026, was showcased by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the G7 summit as an example of the West rebuilding critical material production capacity.

According to Indian media reports in July 2026, Neo is studying the possibility of setting up a magnet production base in India. If implemented, this plan would help India establish domestic rare earth permanent magnet production capacity and reduce its reliance on Chinese imports. Currently, India imports nearly all of its rare earth permanent magnet materials, with over 90% coming from China. Although India holds the world's fifth-largest rare earth reserves, it had not built a commercial magnet factory as of 2025. Neo's evaluation comes as India vigorously promotes its "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) initiative and accelerates the construction of a domestic critical material supply chain.

At present, Neo's specific investment scale and capacity plans in India have not been disclosed. The company previously successfully brought its Estonian magnet factory from construction to production within 500 days, demonstrating its execution capability for rapid global capacity deployment. Neo CEO Rahim Suleman previously stated that European customers have strong demand for its magnet production capacity, and potential demand in the Indian market may become an important factor in the company's evaluation.

If this evaluation translates into a final investment, it would make Neo Performance Materials one of the first international companies to establish rare earth permanent magnet production capacity in India, potentially further promoting the diversification of the global rare earth magnet supply chain.
