en.Wedoany.com Reported - Fremantle Commercial Diving and Dredge Robotics recently completed a major water infrastructure project covering the entire island in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, while engaging with the local community to combine operations with educational outreach.

During the project execution, the team visited Cocos Islands District High School, introducing students in grades 7 to 10 to commercial diving, underwater robotics, and career opportunities through hands-on practical sessions. The curriculum covered the evolution of underwater operations from early diving methods to modern Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and robotic dredging technology, including professional diving equipment demonstrations, live operational displays, and discussions on relevant career competency requirements.

The students showed strong curiosity and enthusiasm as they learned how humans and technology work together to make underwater operations safer, smarter, and more efficient. Dredge Robotics expressed pride in helping to inspire the next generation of divers, technicians, ROV operators, and innovators.
Behind this school visit was a significant project supporting the islands' drinking water infrastructure. A joint team of divers and ROVs traveled from Christmas Island to the Cocos Islands to perform the quinquennial cleaning and inspection of drinking water tanks on Home Island and West Island, completing the task safely, efficiently, and to high standards. This remote island project required extensive planning before the team arrived on site, including mobilizing a full set of diving equipment from Perth to Christmas Island, then onward to the Cocos Islands, while coordinating the logistical challenges of transporting equipment between Home Island and West Island.
The project was completed before the return flight that evening. On the final day, the crew gave back to the local community by participating in a beach cleanup on Home Island to support the Tangaroa Blue Foundation. This visit demonstrated that the team is committed not only to providing professional diving services but also to supporting local communities and environmental initiatives in the locations where they operate.
