en.Wedoany.com Reported - Belgian company Jan De Nul N.V. has won the tender for the maintenance dredging and improvement works of the Río de la Plata navigation channel, with a bid amount of $65.994 million. The award result officially took effect on Wednesday (8th), following the expiration of the five-business-day appeal period without any objections.

The tender was organized by the Río de la Plata Administrative Commission (Comisión Administradora del Río de la Plata, CARP), covering the navigation channel from kilometer 39 (Punta del Farallón) to kilometer 0 of the Uruguay River. The scope of work includes maintenance dredging, widening, and potential channel improvements aimed at reducing operational constraints caused by sediment accumulation, enhancing channel efficiency, and strengthening navigation safety.

During the bidding process, CARP listed Jan De Nul N.V. and Boskalis International Uruguay S.A. as qualified bidders. The commercial bid opening results showed the Belgian company's offer at $65,994,000, while Boskalis quoted $149,279,315. Based on technical and economic evaluations, CARP adopted Resolution No. 17/26, determining Jan De Nul's proposal as the most favorable option for executing the planned works during the initial contract period. The contract has an initial validity of five years, with an option to renew for an equal duration.

According to sources consulted by Altamar News, once the remaining administrative procedures are completed, including the approval of the Environmental Management Plan and verification of relevant documents, the next step will be contract signing, tentatively scheduled for August at CARP's administrative headquarters in Buenos Aires. For CARP, this award is a key step in ensuring the navigability and safety of the Martín García Channel, a critical infrastructure for foreign trade and river connectivity between Uruguay and Argentina.
