en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tele2 has secured new licenses in the 700 MHz and 1500 MHz bands and renewed its existing 2100 MHz band license in the latest spectrum auction held by the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT), with a total investment of €9.8 million. Of this amount, €4.6 million is planned for payment this year, with another €4.6 million to be paid in 2026. This move aims to strengthen the operator's long-term mobile network deployment in Lithuania and support 5G network expansion.

According to the auction results, Tele2 obtained 2x5 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band and 1x20 MHz of spectrum in the 1500 MHz band, while renewing its existing 2x20 MHz license in the 2100 MHz band. All three spectrum licenses are valid until October 31, 2042, providing the company with long-term resources to enhance network capacity, improve coverage, and support next-generation mobile services. As demand for high-speed mobile broadband continues to grow in the Lithuanian market, the newly acquired low-band 700 MHz spectrum is expected to improve wide-area coverage and indoor connectivity performance, while the 1500 MHz spectrum will help boost network capacity to handle high data traffic on 5G networks. Tele2 stated that the newly obtained frequencies will enable it to expand its mobile network in a targeted manner, particularly in areas with rapidly growing customer demand. The operator's 4G network currently covers 99.9% of Lithuania's territory through over 1,600 base stations, and its 5G network already covers 90.2% of the country's population. Petras Masiulis, CEO of Tele2 Baltic, stated that this spectrum acquisition is a significant milestone in the company's long-term network strategy, enabling it to improve the quality of connectivity in Lithuania while continuously advancing 5G development. Combined with existing infrastructure, the new licenses will support the company in accelerating network expansion and improving services.
