en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama announced after participating in a national clean-up exercise in the Alajo community of Accra that the government plans to establish a monthly national clean-up day system and has allocated 150 million Ghanaian cedis for flood control projects.

Mahama stated that Ghana's sanitation situation requires sustained action rather than occasional intensive clean-ups. He noted that the current two-day clean-up activities should be turned into a regular arrangement, saying, "Two days are not enough to complete this work. We will establish a system to ensure that at least one day each month, all citizens participate together in environmental cleaning."

Mahama said this proposal aims to restore traditional values that encourage people to maintain a clean environment. He added that with accelerated urbanization, traditional cleaning habits have gradually weakened. "Traditional values taught us to keep our environment clean. But when we leave our hometowns and move to cities, the anonymity of urban life makes people think no one is watching, so they abandon these habits and live in filth."

The President called on the public to stop using drainage channels as garbage dumping sites. "Drainage channels are not waste disposal tools. If you need to dispose of waste, the public should know the correct way." He encouraged residents to use the skip containers provided by the government.

Mahama revealed that the government has allocated 150 million Ghanaian cedis for flood control projects, including dredging streams and improving drainage infrastructure.
