Italy's Prysmian Deploys Its Most Powerful Heavy Plow Yet, Capable of Burying Cables Five Meters Deep
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian has deployed a new-generation heavy plow developed by UK-based SMD, which the company describes as its most powerful and largest piece of equipment to date.

Prysmian stated that the plow is one of two units procured from SMD and will be used to bury power cables at depths of up to five meters below the seabed level. The tool will be deployed on the company's cable-laying vessels, the "Monna Lisa" and the "Alessandro Volta."
Peter Watson, from Prysmian's Middlesbrough marine base and subsea assets division, said that with its accuracy, precision, and efficiency, the tool enhances the company's ability to tackle increasingly challenging seabed conditions and can achieve cable burial depths of up to five meters depending on seabed characteristics. He also noted that this is a British success story, with Prysmian's marine base in Middlesbrough being a core part of its global operations while also helping to deliver key UK subsea projects. The long-standing technical knowledge and understanding collaboration between the company and its partner SMD reflects the importance of the technology supply chain in Northeast England for ensuring energy security in the UK and Europe, thanks to major subsea power projects. It is this technology that is crucial for maintaining these investments and energy security.
