The couple bought the cottage during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, originally planning an extension. During construction, the foundation began to sink, and Andrew discovered soil collapsing into a deep hole while digging. Investigation revealed a well approximately 8 meters deep, filled with clear water, believed to be nearly two centuries old.

The couple decided to preserve the stone-lined well and incorporate it into the building. They covered the well with a tempered glass walkway, installed lights on the interior walls, and added a pump, transforming it into a wishing well. The renovation took several months. The couple's children, Oscar and Henry, were excited about the idea.

The glass walkway over the well allows visitors to see through to the bottom, with a small opening for making wishes. Andrew estimates the well is about 8 meters deep. Victoria was amazed by the effect, believing the well adds a special charm. The original expansion plan was abandoned in favor of developing the property for rental. The two-bedroom cottage, named Bit Cottage, now rents for £629 per week, with the well as a major attraction.
