Wedoany.com Report-May 7, HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) has successfully secured 300 megawatts (MW) of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Japan through the latest Long-Term Decarbonisation Power Source Auction. The five projects, located in Aomori, Fukushima, and Hokkaido, include one nearing 100 MW in capacity. Each project qualifies for 20-year government-supported capacity payments, ensuring long-term financial stability.

This achievement builds on HDRE’s progress last year, when it secured two BESS projects totaling 73 MW in Mie and Fukuoka prefectures. Those projects are on track to commence operations in 2027, contributing to Japan’s renewable energy infrastructure.

HDRE is advancing an ambitious goal to develop over 3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy in Japan. This includes 400 MW of solar power and 2.6 GW of BESS, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting Japan’s decarbonization efforts through sustainable energy solutions.

The new BESS projects in Aomori, Fukushima, and Hokkaido will enhance grid reliability by storing and distributing renewable energy, addressing peak demand and supporting Japan’s transition to cleaner energy sources. These initiatives align with the country’s broader objectives to expand renewable energy capacity and reduce carbon emissions.

HDRE’s focus on battery storage complements its solar development, creating a balanced portfolio that strengthens Japan’s renewable energy ecosystem. The company’s strategic participation in the Long-Term Decarbonisation Power Source Auction underscores its role in advancing innovative energy solutions tailored to regional needs.

By securing these projects, HDRE continues to expand its footprint in Japan’s renewable energy market, contributing to sustainable development and energy security across multiple prefectures. The combination of government-backed payments and a clear development roadmap positions HDRE as a key player in Japan’s clean energy future.
