Wedoany.com Report-Nov 4, Irish building materials group CRH Plc (LON:CRH) has completed the installation of a 30-MW wind farm in Romania to supply its cement production plant in the Balkan country and lower the site’s carbon footprint.
The wind park will be built to meet a significant part of the Medgidia cement plant’s annual electricity demand, CRH said on Friday. According to the Dublin-based firm, this will be the first wind turbine installation to exclusively power a cement plant.
Construction of the wind farm was initiated in August last year and the complex is now fully operational. The five-turbine park is expected to generate about 80 GWh of electricity annually, which will help offset roughly 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
“This is a significant clean energy project for CRH and is one of the many ways we are helping to create a more resilient and sustainable built environment,” said Eunice Heath, Chief Sustainability Officer at CRH.
CRH. which has operations in 28 countries globally, executed the project in line with its industry-leading target to reduce absolute carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
