en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to pilot a MCP (Model Context Protocol) service that directly connects artificial intelligence with public data, enabling AI to query real-time information on pedestrian flow, traffic, weather, and more.

MCP is a technology that directly interfaces AI with public data. Previously, large AI models primarily relied on training databases or internet search results to generate responses, which often led to "hallucinations" where incorrect information was treated as fact. The Seoul Metropolitan Government stated that with AI connected to MCP, it can directly query government public data, thereby providing more accurate and reliable answers. For example, when a user asks Claude, "How many shared bicycles are near Seoul Forest?" the returned result will include detailed information such as the real-time remaining number of shared bicycles in various locations.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government also plans to expand existing public data APIs into MCP interfaces, enabling AI agents to access data more conveniently. During the pilot phase, 100 slots will be made available, and users can apply through Kakao's PlayMCP platform. Upon approval, users can obtain information on pedestrian congestion levels, public transportation, weather, and cultural activities in 121 major districts of Seoul, with data update frequencies ranging from seconds to a maximum of five minutes.
