en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK construction contractor Laing O'Rourke announced on July 10, 2026, that it has signed a contract with the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust to expand the Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) in West Yorkshire, UK. The project will double the hospital's current size.
According to the plan, the expansion will include a new Emergency Department, a standalone Children's Emergency Department, and eight new wards. Upon completion, Calderdale Royal Hospital will centralize all unplanned (acute) medical services, while all planned elective care will be transferred to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI).

Laing O'Rourke stated that it will leverage its extensive experience in delivering large-scale healthcare projects and adopt industry-leading Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and factory-based prefabrication techniques to ensure certainty, high quality, and efficiency. The contractor has been deeply involved in the design and planning of the project since 2024.
The Calderdale Royal Hospital expansion is a core component of the local "Foundations for Our Future" healthcare transformation plan, aimed at comprehensively upgrading hospital and community services in the Calderdale and Huddersfield areas. The total investment in the project is approximately £200 million. Construction is expected to officially begin in summer 2026 and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
