en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dimension News, July 13 - Unit 2 of the Dadu River Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station was successfully commissioned and began generating electricity. Following the grid connection of the first unit on June 26, the project achieved the "dual commissioning" target within half a month. This milestone marks a critical step toward the full operation of this hydropower project, which features the world's tallest dam.

Located in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station is a key national energy project under China's 14th Five-Year Plan. The station has a total installed capacity of 2,000 MW, comprising four hydro-turbine generator units each with a capacity of 500 MW, and an average annual power generation of 7.7 billion kWh. Its river-closure dam is a gravel-soil core rockfill dam with a maximum height of 315 meters, equivalent to a 100-story building. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 2.9 billion cubic meters and features annual regulation capability. Once operational, it will provide an additional 6.6 billion kWh of dry-season electricity annually to downstream cascade power stations and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 7.18 million tons.

As the units are progressively commissioned, the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station will effectively expand the clean energy installed capacity in the Dadu River basin, enhance the peak-shaving and frequency-regulation capabilities of the Sichuan power grid, and play a vital role in strengthening the flood control safety barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The remaining two units are scheduled to be commissioned and begin power generation within the year, at which point the station will fully realize its comprehensive benefits.
