en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 12, Karachi Port welcomed the MSC Erica, a container ship with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs, making it one of the largest vessels ever to call at the port. This marks a new milestone in the operational capabilities of this container gateway in Pakistan.

The MSC Erica measures 398.5 meters in length, 59 meters in width, with a gross tonnage of 194,308 GT and a draft of 12 meters, berthing at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPTL).

During its stay at the port, the MSC Erica is expected to handle over 3,000 containers before departing for Dalian, China. The Karachi Port Trust stated that the vessel's captain highly praised the professionalism and safe maneuvering skills of the port's pilots. This call further underscores Karachi Port's potential as a regional container hub, driving continuous improvements in port infrastructure and operational capacity. As the global shipping industry evolves toward larger vessels, Karachi Port's experience in accommodating ultra-large container ships helps strengthen its competitiveness in the South Asian region.

By continuously optimizing channel conditions and terminal facilities, Karachi Port has gradually enhanced its ability to handle a new generation of large vessels. The successful berthing of the MSC Erica reflects the port's progress in boosting throughput capacity and service levels. Moving forward, Karachi Port will continue to refine its functions to better adapt to changing trends in the international shipping market.
