en.Wedoany.com Reported - China Unicom and Huawei have completed a large-scale deployment of 3.5GHz+2.1GHz SUL (Supplementary Uplink) in Harbin, with tests showing a single-terminal uplink peak rate of 1Gbps. The deployment covers two scenarios: the Chinese Baroque Historical and Cultural District and the Xueyuan Xincheng residential area.

The telecommunications industry is shifting from a download-dominated model to a new paradigm that balances both uplink and downlink. The "Large Uplink Network Initiative" released by GSMA at MWC26 highlights that innovative services such as multimodal AI agents, embodied intelligent robots, and ultra-high-definition live-streaming e-commerce require ubiquitous 20Mbps uplink bandwidth with a peak of 1Gbps. Scenarios in Harbin, including ice and snow tourism live streaming, specialty agricultural product e-commerce, and industrial applications such as smart mine remote control and machine vision quality inspection, impose higher demands on uplink speed and reliability.

In the Baroque Historical and Cultural District, services such as cultural tourism live streaming, tourist video sharing, and AR navigation test the network's uplink capabilities. The large uplink network can support concurrent multi-channel HD live streaming and real-time AI glasses-based scenic spot commentary. The Xueyuan Xincheng residential area, a typical large-scale community, previously suffered from insufficient 5G network deep coverage. The pilot deployment uses 1.8GHz+2.1GHz dual-band 8T8R equipment, leveraging the penetration advantages of the 2.1GHz band and the multi-antenna gain of 8T8R to improve coverage, meeting the uplink demands of terminals such as AI phones and AI glasses, as well as applications like home HD surveillance video backhaul.

Measured data shows that the uplink peak rate reaches 1Gbps, aligning with the peak target proposed by GSMA's "Large Uplink Network Initiative." This result validates the actual performance of the 3.5GHz+2.1GHz solution, providing data support for subsequent large-scale deployment. China Unicom has already built the country's first AI×Broad Uplink demonstration in Tianjin, and this measured achievement in Harbin is part of its large uplink innovative network layout.
