en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 15, local time, Hungary's former Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on social media that he would resign from his parliamentary seat and join BYD, a renowned Chinese electric vehicle company.

Szijjártó served as a member of the Hungarian National Assembly since 2002 and as Hungary's Foreign Minister from 2014 until May of this year.

Szijjártó, 47, announced on social media that he would leave parliament, writing, "BYD is one of the most successful companies in the automotive industry over the past 20 years and a global leader in new energy vehicles. Starting today, I will serve as a senior executive responsible for the group's external relations and new business line expansion."

It is reported that BYD began construction of its first European electric vehicle production plant in Szeged, southern Hungary, in 2024, and announced in 2025 that it would relocate its regional corporate and R&D center from the Netherlands to Budapest, Hungary. Hungary has become a key fulcrum for BYD's expansion into the European market. Szijjártó is familiar with the EU policy environment and government-enterprise communication channels. This cross-industry move is expected to leverage his government experience and regional resources to assist BYD in handling external communication affairs with European countries.
