en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recycled aluminum producer Aluminum Dynamics LLC plans to build a recycled aluminum sheet center in Lowndes County, Mississippi, with a project investment exceeding $200 million, expected to create 100 new jobs.
The facility will be located in the Golden Triangle Industrial Park in Lowndes County, primarily recycling aluminum-containing materials (mainly used beverage cans), with a planned annual production capacity of 180,000 tons of aluminum sheet. The project is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2027.
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) stated that it will provide assistance for direct road and rail infrastructure improvements for the project. The project is also eligible for tax incentives through the Mississippi Major Economic Impact Authority program, with Lowndes County coordinating efforts.
Devin Crawford, Operations Manager at Aluminum Dynamics, said the company appreciates the support from Governor Tate Reeves, the Mississippi Development Authority, the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors, the Lowndes County Industrial Development Authority, and the Golden Triangle Development Link.
Mississippi Governor Reeves stated that the $200 million project will bring 100 high-quality jobs to the Golden Triangle region and further solidify the area's position as a leading advanced manufacturing hub in the country. He thanked Aluminum Dynamics for its continued confidence in Mississippi.
The company already operates other businesses in Lowndes County. Aluminum Dynamics announced in the summer of 2022 that it would operate a new recycled content flat-rolled aluminum plant in Columbus, Mississippi. Its parent company, Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana), also operates an electric arc furnace steel mill in Columbus using scrap steel as raw material.
MDA Executive Director Bill Cork said that Aluminum Dynamics' latest project demonstrates that the state has the workforce, infrastructure, and project-ready environment manufacturers need to remain competitive.
Meryl Fisackerly, President and CEO of the Golden Triangle Development Link, added that the project creates new opportunities for the community and thanked Aluminum Dynamics for its confidence in the region.
In June, SDI announced a $16 million reduction in its second-quarter 2026 earnings, attributed to relocating its planned Aluminum Dynamics recycled aluminum sheet production center from Arizona to Mississippi. In its earnings guidance, SDI stated that the asset write-down resulted from disagreements with Arizona officials, which jeopardized the facility's construction and operation.
According to KOLD-TV in Tucson, Arizona, SDI's plan to build an aluminum sheet plant in Arizona faced "strong community opposition," leading to the recall of three Benson City Council members. Over 3,700 people signed a petition opposing the facility.
SMS Group, which secured the contract for Aluminum Dynamics' rolling mill equipment, posted on LinkedIn in July that the integrated aluminum flat-rolling complex in Columbus is in its final commissioning phase. Once fully operational, the plant will produce 650,000 tons of aluminum sheet annually for automotive and beverage can applications.
