en.Wedoany.com Reported - On Thursday evening (16th), the MG4 Urban was officially launched in São Paulo, Brazil, adding another strategic pillar for the brand (now under China's SAIC Motor) since it began operations in Brazil last November. This electric hatchback, with a starting price of R$129,990, aims to overturn the market perception of electric vehicles as "niche products," directly competing with the country's current best-selling battery-powered models.

The MG4 Urban targets the growing trend in electric vehicle sales—Brazil's electric market sold 90,000 units in the first half of 2026, compared to just 30,000 a year earlier. Fábio Klemec, Sales Director of MG Motor Brazil, stated that over 70% of electric vehicle owners do not return to internal combustion engines. He did not disclose official sales targets for the MG4 Urban but confirmed that all 2,400 units initially allocated to the dealer network have been reserved or are under purchase intent. Since launching its first model late last year, the brand has achieved over 100 sales of the Cyberster electric sports car, more than 400 registrations of the MG S5 SUV, and 800 deliveries of the MG4 X Power.

The product is available in three versions, all equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, single-speed transmission, and front-wheel drive: the entry-level MG4 Urban Comfort 43 kWh, with 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm of torque, an INMETRO range of 299 km, priced at R$129,990; the mid-range MG4 Urban Luxury 43 kWh, adding alloy wheels and richer features, priced at R$139,990; and the top-tier MG4 Urban Luxury 54 kWh, with 160 hp and an increased range of 358 km, priced at R$149,990. All versions support fast charging: the 43 kWh version charges at 82 kW, and the 54 kWh version at 87 kW, reaching 10% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes. In terms of features, the 12.8-inch multimedia center screen is compatible with Apple and Android apps, and the high-end version offers 15 active safety systems (ADAS).

As a strategic pillar, the MG4 Urban is the brand's second model to achieve local production in Brazil, following the MG S5. Between November and December this year, it will be assembled via CKD at the Ceará Automotive Plant (PACE) in Horizonte, considered Brazil's first multi-brand electric and electrified vehicle industrial park. MG Motor has announced an investment of R$400 million for this, with R$60 million allocated to assembly line upgrades and the remainder for R&D and engineering, achieving a monthly production capacity of 1,000 units. Meanwhile, the brand is accelerating the expansion of its dealer network, currently with 28 stores, and plans to increase to 70 by year-end to cover 85% of the national market.
