en.Wedoany.com Reported - KCB Bank Kenya, the Matatu Owners Association (MOA), and electric mobility company ePureMotion have jointly inaugurated a public service vehicle (PSV) electric vehicle charging station in Nairobi's Buruburu Estate, marking a shift in the country's electric public transportation infrastructure from policy commitments to actual deployment.

The charging station is the latest development in a partnership announced in 2024. Under the cooperation agreement, KCB committed to providing financing support for the modernization of Kenya's public transportation sector, helping matatu Saccos and operators replace traditional vehicles with electric alternatives through asset financing and insurance premium financing.

The partners stated that this initiative goes beyond mere financing, aiming to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Kenya's public transportation sector by integrating infrastructure, technology, and industry collaboration. Under the plan, matatu operators will receive electric vehicle charging infrastructure, vehicle maintenance support, technical training, and a range of digital tools designed to enhance fleet efficiency, reduce operating costs, and promote a cleaner, more sustainable transportation ecosystem.

The Buruburu charging station will also serve as a demonstration and learning center for electric public transportation vehicle operations. In addition to providing charging services, the facility will support daily vehicle availability checks, service scheduling, and operator training, accumulating experience for the partners to replicate the model in other parts of Kenya. This initiative highlights the growing collaboration between financial services, transportation, and clean energy sectors in driving Kenya's transition to electric mobility and sustainable public transportation.
