en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 20, the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia, completed the installation of its final Vestas turbine, bringing the total project capacity to approximately 1.3GW. Located about 60 kilometers northwest of Geelong, the wind farm is 85% owned by TagEnergy and 15% by Ingka Investments, making it one of the largest onshore wind projects in Australia.

The Golden Plains Wind Farm is being developed in two phases: the Eastern Zone and the Western Zone. The 756MW Eastern Zone is already operational, while the 576MW Western Zone is scheduled to be gradually connected to the grid and commissioned within this year. The project utilizes Vestas EnVentus V162-6.2MW turbines. With the completion of the final turbine installation, the wind farm has laid the groundwork for further full-site commissioning. Currently, approximately 1.1GW of capacity is in operation, and upon full commissioning, the total capacity will reach about 1.33GW.

The wind farm also plans to build a supporting 150MW/600MWh battery energy storage system, which will utilize Tesla equipment, with a target of delivering power by the end of 2027. Once fully completed, the project is expected to generate over 4,000GWh of electricity annually, meeting the power needs of approximately 765,000 households. The subsequent focus for the Golden Plains Wind Farm will be on grid connection for the Western Zone, energy storage construction, power consumption, and preparations for the third-phase expansion. If supported by relevant procedures, the third-phase expansion is expected to add between 700MW and 1,000MW of capacity.
