en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 20, German asset manager MEAG advanced its investment in London's waste-to-energy assets, acquiring a 49.8% stake in the South East London Combined Heat and Power project from iCON Infrastructure Partners IV LP. The waste-to-energy plant, named SELCHP, is located in the Lewisham area of southeast London, with French company Veolia continuing as co-owner and operator.

SELCHP is a combined heat and power (CHP) and waste-to-energy facility that operates through long-term waste supply contracts and power purchase agreements. According to Veolia, the facility processes approximately 420,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating enough electricity to meet the demand of around 48,000 households, with the power sold to the UK's National Grid. Waste-to-energy projects can provide local electricity and heat resources while treating municipal waste, serving as a type of infrastructure within urban energy and waste management systems.

MEAG stated that the asset features long-term contracted revenue and relatively defensive infrastructure characteristics. Following the acquisition, MEAG will participate in the project's returns through its infrastructure equity investment portfolio. The ongoing operational focus of SELCHP will remain on waste supply stability, equipment availability, emission control, electricity sales, and long-term operation and maintenance arrangements.
