The second round of the Call for Sites runs from 20 July 2026 to 31 August 2026. The first round was held from 1 June 2026 to 13 July 2026. This activity is part of the council's early work to prepare a new local plan under the government's reformed planning system. Submitted sites can be used for a range of potential uses, including housing, employment, infrastructure, open space, and community facilities. The additional submission period offers another opportunity for those who were unable to participate previously or who have identified further sites to make recommendations. Recommending a site does not guarantee it will be included in the development plan; all sites will be assessed alongside other evidence and information to inform future land-use decisions.

The local plan guides planning application decisions and helps determine development locations in North Norfolk, balancing housing, employment, and infrastructure needs with protecting the area's environment, heritage, and communities. The current North Norfolk Local Plan was adopted in December 2025 and is valid until 2040. Due to extensive changes in national planning legislation and policy, the council must prepare a new plan in accordance with the government's new plan-making framework. The new plan will cover the period from 2029 to 2045 and should be adopted within 30 months of 31 October 2026. As part of the plan preparation, the council must consider a wide range of potential development opportunities to ensure a robust evidence base to meet future growth needs. Site submissions must be made online, with applicants drawing the site boundary on the council's dedicated website and providing information about the land and its potential uses. The acceptance criteria are that the site must be capable of accommodating at least five dwellings, or have an area of 0.25 hectares or more. Each piece of land must be submitted separately; combined submissions for multiple sites will not be accepted. The submission period is from 20 July 2026 to 31 August 2026.
