en.Wedoany.com Reported - Microsoft has announced that starting August 15, 2026, it will discontinue OneDrive sync support for Windows 10 version 21H2 and earlier. Microsoft recommends users upgrade to version 22H2 or Windows 11.

The OneDrive sync client is a background service responsible for synchronizing content from a personal computer with OneDrive cloud storage, allowing users to avoid manually uploading and downloading the latest versions of files. This service offers features such as two-way sync, offline access, Known Folder Move (KFM), and Files On-Demand.

Although system support for Windows 10 version 21H2 ended in 2024, OneDrive sync has continued to work on this operating system and has received ongoing feature updates. Microsoft has notified users via the Message Center (MC1426708) that, starting August 15, 2026, Windows 10 version 21H2 and earlier will no longer be supported for OneDrive sync. These versions will no longer receive new features, bug fixes, or security updates. The application itself will not stop running, but Microsoft states that it cannot guarantee normal functionality after this date.

Previously, Microsoft extended support for Windows 10 to at least October 2027 for users enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. On Windows 10 version 22H2, OneDrive sync will continue to receive updates until October 10, 2028.
