Kazakhstan's Power Generation Reaches 63.4 Billion kWh in First Half of 2026

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, announced at a government meeting that the country's power generation in the first half of 2026 reached 63.4 billion kWh, equivalent to 101.9% of the actual value in 2025.

Akkenzhenov stated that the power industry achieved growth in electricity generation during the first half of this year, with renewable energy generation also increasing. The forecast for total power generation in 2026 is 126.5 billion kWh.

To alleviate the power shortage this year, Kazakhstan plans to add approximately 2.66 GW of new installed power capacity. Related projects include: the modernization of Almaty Combined Heat and Power Plants No. 2 and No. 3, the construction of a gas-steam combined cycle power plant in Turkistan Region, the commissioning of Turbine Unit No. 11 and installation of Boiler No. 15 at Atyrau Combined Heat and Power Plant, the commissioning of three waste heat boilers and one steam turbine with generator at the Tekeli Energy Complex, as well as renewable energy facilities with a total installed capacity of 245.8 MW.
