en.Wedoany.com Reported - Astra, a Brazilian company, has taken over the operation of the "Cuidado Bem com a Escola" public-private partnership project in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The project plans to construct, modernize, and manage the infrastructure of 107 schools in the municipal network over the next 20 years. Considered the largest educational infrastructure concession in the country in terms of the number of schools auctioned and students covered, the project will serve over 47,000 students and plans to expand enrollment by approximately 1,800 places.
The contract was awarded to the "Cuidado Porto Alegre Consortium," led by Astra in partnership with Afonso França through the holding company Infinity Infra. The project involves a direct investment of 912 million reais in school construction and infrastructure modernization, with the total contract value estimated at approximately 4.7 billion reais. A total of 97 existing schools will be renovated, and 10 new schools will be built.
The concessionaire will be responsible for managing infrastructure and support services, including building maintenance, cleaning, janitorial services, waste management, laundry, and utilities. The Municipal Department of Education will continue to oversee teaching activities, including teacher management, curriculum, and school meals.
