POSCO Argentina Plans to Double Investment to Expand Lithium Production to 100,000 Tons

The proposal was presented during a meeting between company executives and provincial government officials. The meeting was chaired by Ignacio Lupión, Minister of Production and Mining of Salta, and Gustavo Carrizo, Secretary of Mining, who received POSCO Argentina President Park Hyeon and his team to discuss growth plans for the next phase of the project.

During the meeting, POSCO Argentina outlined its goal: to achieve an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. This target implies a significant expansion of operations and a doubling of the company's already executed investment in the province.

In addition to production growth, both parties analyzed the local impact of this new phase and agreed on the need to support the project's development through concrete actions to strengthen community building in the areas affected by the project. Within this framework, they agreed to advance a local development plan to create more opportunities for towns related to the project, promoting sustainable growth alongside the expansion of mining activities.

Another key focus of the discussion was the participation of Salta suppliers in the value chain. Both authorities and the company emphasized that the growth in investment and capacity should translate into greater demand for local goods and services, thereby strengthening the mining supplier network.

Through this expansion plan, POSCO seeks to consolidate its business growth in Salta. This comes at a time of strong development in the lithium industry and increasing global demand for critical minerals for the energy transition.
