en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first phase of the Golden Valley project has commenced. This £1 billion cyber and technology park located in Cheltenham, UK, aims to drive innovation, growth, and collaboration in the nation's national security and defense sectors.

Cheltenham Borough Council and development partner HBD (a subsidiary of Henry Boot) have appointed Bowmer + Kirkland as the main contractor for the first phase. The contractor will deliver the Idea—the flagship innovation centre of Golden Valley, which houses the National Security Innovation Centre.

Scheduled to open in early 2028, the facility will bring together government, academia, and industry to accelerate innovation in the cyber and defense sectors. The Idea has been included in the government's Modern Industrial Strategy, supporting emerging enterprises while enhancing the UK's cybersecurity capabilities.

Sustainability is at the core of the project. The Idea is designed to be 50% more energy-efficient than a typical office building, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 200 tonnes annually. Around 60% of Golden Valley will be designated as green space, while 68% of the Idea's space has already been pre-booked before completion.

The project is expected to solidify the South West's position as a leading hub for cybersecurity, innovation, and long-term economic growth.

Bowmer + Kirkland will also deliver the Router—a transport hub designed to promote sustainable mobility. The facility will include secure bicycle storage, electric bike charging stations, showers, lockers, real-time travel information, parking, as well as retail and leisure amenities.
