en.Wedoany.com Reported - German multinational company Fischer has launched its first robotic warehouse outside Germany in Mont-roig del Camp (Tarragona province), Spain, to strengthen logistics capabilities on the Iberian Peninsula. The facility increases storage capacity by 50%, automates the preparation of most orders, and improves service to markets in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra.
The project involves an investment of over 4 million euros and received 2.25 million euros in public aid, funded by the Nuclear Transition Funds (Fondos de Transición Nuclear) managed by the Catalan government's business competitiveness agency. This initiative is part of a strategy to promote new industrial investments in regions affected by the future closure of nuclear power plants.
The new infrastructure covers 5,000 square meters, of which approximately 500 square meters are automated. The compact warehousing system AutoStore integrates 14,040 bins, ten autonomous robots, two picking stations, and one material entry point, all managed by software equipped with artificial intelligence, designed to optimize order preparation and increase productivity.
Thanks to this automation, the center can manage up to 4,000 products, accelerate shipment dispatch, and combine the capabilities of the new robotic system with a traditional warehouse capable of holding 2,500 pallets, thereby improving product availability for the construction, industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors. The company also emphasizes that the energy consumption of the ten robots is roughly equivalent to that of a household vacuum cleaner, making it one of the lowest-energy automated warehousing solutions on the market.
With this investment, Fischer consolidates the Mont-roig del Camp facility as its logistics platform on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the group's strategic locations in Europe. According to José Luis Massana, Managing Director of Fischer Ibérica, the company's turnover has nearly doubled over the past decade, from 25 million euros in 2016 to 52 million euros in 2025, necessitating the expansion and upgrade of logistics capabilities to meet a new phase of growth. The Fischer Group, a German industrial group founded in 1948, is globally renowned for its fastening systems, including the iconic nylon expansion anchor invented by Artur Fischer. The company also excels in stainless steel components, educational toys (fischertechnik), and process consulting. The group has 52 subsidiaries in 39 countries and employs over 5,400 people. In Spain, Fischer Ibérica, established in 1962, has more than 110 employees, with its headquarters in Mont-roig del Camp and offices in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Madrid.
