Manufactured by China's Ziyang Company, these locomotives arrived in Morocco after completing relevant technical tests. ONCF stated that this delivery is a key part of its railway transport system modernization and development plan. The new locomotives will drive the renewal of the aging fleet, improve the reliability and punctuality of passenger and freight services, and enhance the overall operational efficiency of the railway network.
According to the plan, these new locomotives will be deployed on Morocco's eastern mainline railway, serving the line connecting Fez, Nador, and Oujda. Some sections of this line have not yet been electrified and still rely on diesel locomotive traction for operation, leading to long-term capacity constraints. The introduction of the new locomotives will alleviate this issue and improve transport reliability. Meanwhile, ONCF is also advancing the electrification of the Fez-Oujda railway to further enhance the line's traction power supply conditions.
CRRC Ziyang's export of diesel locomotives to Morocco is another case of Chinese rail transit equipment enterprises expanding into overseas markets, providing applicable solutions for railway networks with varying levels of electrification.

Over the past 50 years, it has produced more than 6,000 diesel and electric locomotives of various types, covering national mainline railways, local joint-venture railways, and industries such as metallurgy, petrochemicals, and mining. The company has exported over 1,400 locomotives to 37 countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australia, with more than 95% sold to countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan. With export market share exceeding 50%, this means that for every two diesel locomotives exported from China, one comes from CRRC Ziyang.
