en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has acquired 200 acres of land in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, India, and 88 acres in Pune, Maharashtra, to drive the expansion of its data center business, particularly for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The Anakapalli site is located near Visakhapatnam (Vizag), where Google is already developing a 1-gigawatt (GW) hyperscale data center.

According to a report by the Economic Times, the Anakapalli plot is reserved for OpenAI's first data center facility in India. OpenAI previously announced it would be the first customer of TCS's HyperVault data center business, with an initial capacity of 100 megawatts (MW), potentially expanding to 1 GW in the future. Currently, neither OpenAI nor TCS has officially confirmed the specific use of the Anakapalli site, but their collaboration in India is public knowledge.
In another transaction, TCS, through its subsidiary HyperVault AI Data Center Limited, acquired an 88-acre plot in Bopkhel, a northern suburb of Pune. A statement from TCS to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) revealed that HyperVault paid 64.05 billion Indian rupees (approximately $666 million) to state-owned enterprise Hemisphere Properties for the plot.
These acquisitions align with TCS's overall strategy to invest in India's digital infrastructure. In November 2025, TCS announced a partnership with TPG to support HyperVault in building gigawatt-scale AI-ready infrastructure, aiming to expand TCS's AI-ready data center capacity to over 1 GW in the coming years. TCS and TPG have committed up to 180 billion Indian rupees (approximately $1.8 billion) in funding for HyperVault, with TPG investing up to 88.2 billion Indian rupees (approximately $916 million) to acquire a 27.5% to 49% stake in HyperVault.
The Andhra Pradesh government's efforts to attract digital infrastructure investments, along with TCS's data center plans and its partnership with OpenAI, strongly suggest that the Anakapalli site will be used for building a data center. As of November 2025, India's data center capacity exceeded 1.5 GW, with 260 MW of capacity coming online in 2025 alone. According to CBRE data, the country has secured $94 billion in investments from global and domestic companies, with 45% concentrated in regions such as Maharashtra and Telangana.
