en.Wedoany.com Reported - China has delivered its first domestically built fully electric inland river container export vessel to French shipping company CMA CGM, which will be deployed on Vietnam's inland river routes.
According to the builder, Shandong New Energy Shipbuilding Co., the vessel arrived on Tuesday at Rugao Port in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, for final testing and is expected to depart for Vietnam in four days. This vessel represents CMA CGM's first export order for a domestically built, fully electric container ship designed specifically for inland waterway operations.
Unlike traditional container ships that use diesel or other marine fuels, this fully electric inland river container vessel is powered entirely by rechargeable batteries, designed for shorter inland routes. It can operate with zero direct emissions while reducing onboard noise. With a capacity of 182 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the vessel uses a battery-electric propulsion system to achieve zero-emission operation throughout its entire voyage.
After delivery, the vessel will operate on a fixed route between Binh Duong Province and Cai Mep Port in Vietnam. Shandong New Energy Shipbuilding Co. stated that the vessel will replace conventionally fueled ships currently operating on this route and provide full-cycle green shipping services.
