A new Chrome-based web browsing feature will launch first in the United States.

Unlike traditional chatbots that wait for user prompts, Gemini Spark is designed to run continuously in the background, even when a phone is locked or a computer is turned off. Powered by Gemini 3.6 Flash and running on Google Cloud's infrastructure, it connects directly to Workspace apps such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar without requiring additional setup. Users can assign Spark ongoing tasks, such as organizing travel bookings, monitoring subscriptions, summarizing inbox activity, handling customer inquiries, or generating recurring reports. Spark can also analyze a user's past emails to develop a personalized writing style and reuse it when drafting messages later. Google says users can control the scope of service by selecting which apps Spark can access, and the AI will seek user approval before performing sensitive actions such as sending emails or making payments.

Google is also extending Spark beyond Workspace with Chrome browser integration. Once authorized, Spark can use a user's logged-in accounts and saved passwords to perform web tasks, such as searching for flights, scheduling property viewings, or initiating online bookings. The company says the feature includes protection against prompt injection attacks and will return control to the user before completing sensitive actions such as purchases.

Gemini Spark arrives as major AI companies increasingly focus on agentic AI.
