en.Wedoany.com Reported - From January to April 2026, Peru's copper exports totaled $13.214 billion, a 59.2% increase compared to $8.299 billion in the same period of 2025. The data comes from the Mining Statistics Bulletin (BEM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem). During this period, copper accounted for 34.7% of Peru's total national exports, remaining the country's leading mining export product.

In April alone, Peru's copper exports amounted to $3.175 billion, a 93% increase compared to $1.645 billion in April 2025. Factors driving the month's export growth included a 49.8% rise in international copper prices and a 31.5% increase in export volumes compared to the same month last year.

Global demand for copper continues to rise. Copper is regarded as a strategic mineral for the energy transition and technological development, with the electrification of transportation, the expansion of renewable energy, and digital infrastructure construction all increasing copper consumption. For example, electric vehicles require more copper than conventional vehicles; solar and wind power generation projects, as well as facilities such as power grids, transmission systems, and data centers, also require large amounts of this red metal.

While demand grows, mining supply is struggling to expand at the same pace. The long development cycles of new projects and numerous operational challenges in the industry limit the rapid expansion of production capacity, creating favorable conditions for copper-producing countries such as Peru.
