en.Wedoany.com Reported - AngloGold Ashanti reported second-quarter results on Friday, with headline earnings of $1.01 billion, up 58% from $639 million in the same period last year. The profit growth was primarily driven by a 35% year-on-year increase in average gold prices, despite a decline in the company's gold production during the period.

In terms of production, AngloGold's second-quarter gold output fell 7% year-on-year to 744,000 ounces, mainly due to the company's sale of the Serra Grande mine in Brazil in December 2025. Meanwhile, production at the Obuasi mine in Ghana dropped 32%, attributed to operational and equipment challenges, as well as work stoppages caused by a fatal accident in April 2026.

In the first half of the year, the company's cumulative gold production decreased 3.7% to 1.47 million ounces. AngloGold stated that it expects stronger production in the second half of the year compared to the first half, in order to achieve its 2026 annual production guidance of 2.8 million to 3.17 million ounces.

Regarding cash flow and shareholder returns, second-quarter free cash flow stood at $727 million, up 36% year-on-year. The company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.72 per share, totaling $364 million, bringing cumulative first-half dividends to $949 million. A proposed $2 billion share buyback program was approved by shareholders on July 23.
