en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spain's Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) plans to hold a 600 MW auction for high-efficiency cogeneration in December. This auction is the first of two planned for this year and next, totaling 1,200 MW, with this capacity available both for upgrading existing cogeneration units and for new projects.

Pursuant to Order TED/672/2026, this draft resolution establishes the holding of this auction to grant a specific remuneration regime to high-efficiency cogeneration facilities. The draft also sets out the auction date, an extended implementation schedule, detailed specifications, and participation forms. The Iberian Electricity Market Operator (Operador del Mercado Ibérico de la Electricidad) is responsible for organizing the auction, while the National Commission on Markets and Competition (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia) oversees it.
The auction is divided into 10 product or capacity quotas by facility type, of which 8 correspond to gas-fired plants, totaling 505 MW, and 2 correspond to biomass plants, totaling 95 MW. Quota sizes vary depending on technical characteristics, with gas cogeneration quotas ranging from 2 MW to 100 MW and biomass quotas ranging from 30 MW to 65 MW. Interested parties may submit comments by September 15.
