Representatives from Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman held an online meeting that day to assess the current state and outlook of the global oil market. This output increase marks the sixth consecutive month of production hikes since the major producers launched increases in April this year.

Analysts believe that, given the continued disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, this output increase will have limited impact on the market in the short term. Only when crude oil exports return to normal will it have a real effect on the market.

"OPEC+" is composed of OPEC members and non-OPEC oil producers such as Russia. In March 2025, the aforementioned seven countries, together with the United Arab Emirates, which has since withdrawn from OPEC, jointly decided to gradually increase crude oil production starting April 1 of that year.
