China's Yalong River Basin 23 GW of Installed Capacity Fully Ensures Power Supply

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 1, it was learned from SDIC Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. that approximately 23 GW of installed capacity from the Yalong River Basin Water-Wind-Solar Integrated Base has been fully deployed for peak summer power supply assurance. Currently, the cascaded hydropower stations in the basin have a combined stored energy of 17.77 billion kWh for joint operation, an increase of 950 million kWh year-on-year, providing ample water energy reserves for peak-load power supply to the grid.

Currently, the Yalong River Basin Water-Wind-Solar Integrated Base has completed the construction of three large regulating reservoirs—Lianghekou, Jinping I, and Ertan—with a total storage capacity of 24.9 billion cubic meters and a regulating capacity of 14.8 billion cubic meters, accounting for approximately 51% of the total regulating capacity of large reservoirs in Sichuan Province. Relying on ultra-high-voltage transmission projects such as the Jinping-Sunan DC and Yalong-Hubei DC lines, clean electricity from the Yalong River is continuously delivered to the Sichuan-Chongqing region as well as East and Central China.

In the middle reaches of the Yalong River, the Lianghekou hydropower station fully leverages its role as a leading reservoir for regulation, coordinating flood control, hydropower peak shaving, and photovoltaic consumption, ensuring the 3 GW transmission channel operates at full capacity. In July, all six generating units of the Lianghekou Hydropower Station were connected to the grid, with cumulative power generation increasing by 60% year-on-year and a single-day peak generation of 63.99 million kWh—both indicators setting new records since commissioning.

Meanwhile, high-altitude new energy stations and cascaded hydropower stations have simultaneously strengthened operation and maintenance support. At the Kela Phase I, Suorong, and Chabula photovoltaic power stations, located at altitudes exceeding 4,000 meters, operations and maintenance personnel rely on intelligent operation platforms and drone inspection systems for round-the-clock monitoring; at the Labashan Wind Farm, operations and maintenance personnel conducted over 120 turbine climbing maintenance operations in July.
